As we age, losing weight becomes increasingly difficult. Family Circle has advice for stepping up your walking workout so you burn more calories. But we want to know what’s worked for you. Do you prefer to burn calories, or cut them from your diet? What exercise or diet changes have helped you drop pounds (and keep them off)?

I got a dog! I read somewhere that people with dogs are able to lose weight because they have to take them for a walk, so I now have an adorable chihuahua named Sushi. We love to go for evening walks around the neighborhood, sometimes even lasting as much as an hour! She’s even started to get tired before I do, so sometimes I will carry her so that I can keep walking a little more. I also try to walk with my neighbor once a week. Every extra step counts!

As I’ve gotten older, weight training has become more important for me. Cardio alone is not enough to take off the pounds and defy gravity!
