I always think I’m going to have time to work out my packaging designs in advance. Then it’s the eleventh hour, I’m tired, and I need packaging I won’t mind doing thirty times. That was me on Wednesday evening, after making nearly eight dozen cookies with my son and wanting a cute way to gift them. But sometimes exhaustion works in my favor. It helps me to keep it simple.

This is a doable packaging idea if you’re making gifts in bulk. You can create the tags in assembly line fashion and you don’t need any crafty know-how. Stamp, punch, glue, tie. That’s all there is to it. And while I’m inspired by holly motifs, it’s easy enough to swap colors and designs to match your personal style. The end result – simple, yet polished enough for gift giving.

Materials:

Lunch bags of any size (I used 3 1/2 in x 2in x 6 3/4 in)
Display tags (I used 2 3/4 in x 1 11/16 in)
Holiday rubber stamp
Inkpad
Holly punch
Glitter paper
Sequins
Glue
Scissors
Bakers twine or other string
1/8-inch hole punch

Directions:

1. Stamp holiday sentiments on the bottoms of each tag; let them dry for a few minutes.

2. While the ink is drying on your tags, punch holly leaves from glitter paper. Slightly bend each leaf (as if you were folding it in half) to give it dimension.

3. Glue the holly leaves onto the tags (gluing just the center of each leaf, so that the edges stand up); glue a sequin under the leaves.

4. Punch a hole in the center of each bag, at the top.

5. Cut two lengths of bakers twine or other decorative string (long enough to wrap around your bag and still have some left for tails); run it through the hole in the top of the bag.

6. String the tag onto the twine; tie at the top, near the hole. Push the tag up, to sit under the tied twine. Trim twine ends, if necessary.
